We met as freshmen at Howard Health and Life Sciences High School in 2008 and became friends long before either of us realized our story would eventually become something more.✦Even our prom history felt like foreshadowing. Junior year we took photos side by side, and senior year we went together “as friends.” After graduation, life pulled us in different directions, but somehow we always found our way back to each other through shared memories, social media, and conversations that never really felt finished.

How We Met

In 2019, a slightly late birthday message changed everything.✦What followed was years of long-distance calls, weekend visits, inside jokes, constant laughter, and intentionally choosing each other through every season of life. Two years ago, we finally closed the distance and started building a home together.✦Somewhere along the way, friendship became home.

When Things Changed

D’Angelio surprised Rachel with what she thought was simply a downtown photo day.✦During a few “test shots” with their photographer, he got down on one knee behind her. When Rachel turned around mid-laugh, he told her he wanted to laugh with her forever and asked her to marry him.✦She said yes.

The Proposal

At the center of our relationship is friendship.We love music, creativity, spontaneous adventures, staying home together, laughing entirely too hard, and finding ways to make ordinary moments memorable.✦More than anything, we’ve built a relationship grounded in honesty, partnership, softness, intentionality, and choosing each other daily.

The People Standing With Us

We have always believed that life is shaped by the people who walk beside you. The six standing with us are more than a wedding party. They are the family who have supported us, grown with us, and helped keep our sense of wonder and joy alive through every chapter.

On Rachel's Side

Violet is the sister I never had, and the kind of person who knows me fully and loves me without hesitation. We have walked through both joyful and difficult seasons together, finding our way back to each other at exactly the right time. In my lowest moments, she has been a source of strength and steady support. I am deeply honored to have her standing beside me.

Deveney is the sister I always hoped for. She is fiercely protective, deeply selfless, and someone who never lets me forget my worth. Though she is younger, she has always shown up with the strength and care of a big sister, seeing me fully and loving me through it all. I could not imagine this moment without her by my side.

Deveney Smith

Andre is my “big little brother” and one of the most important parts of my chosen family. What began with late nights in college grew into a lasting bond built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support. He is easy to talk to, endlessly caring, and holds a special place in my life as Zeus’s godfather. From showing up when it mattered most to unforgettable moments along the way, he has always been there. I am so grateful he will stand beside me on this day.

On D'Angelio's Side

Mikey is my younger brother, which means I’ve known him his whole life and somehow he STILL agreed to be my best man. I have always looked out for him, and in turn, he has been a constant source of pride and joy. It means so much to have him standing beside me on this day.

Rianna and I have been close since high school, and over the years she’s truly become like a sister to me. Through college and every season of life that followed, she’s been a constant presence, someone I can always count on. Her thoughtfulness, support, and genuine heart mean more to me than words can say. I’m incredibly grateful to have her standing beside me on this day.

Kahlil and I have been friends since high school, and over time that friendship turned into brotherhood. We’ve made it through school, college, and a few questionable decisions along the way, but always with plenty of laughter. He knows me well, probably too well—and I couldn’t imagine this day without him by my side.

To help create that atmosphere, we kindly ask guests to wear colorful cocktail or formal attire. Choose a bright, happy color that makes you feel confident and celebration ready. ✦ Want to have a little extra fun?
